Alcibiad
A city-state within the Merchant Kingdoms. The Temple of Heironeous rules over the large city, and law is maintained by the skyriders who ride giant eagles from the nearby mountains.

Alstnor
A member of the Elvish Council that has been in seclusion since the Invasion of Talenorn in T93. He lords over the Elvish military forces.

Archibald the Mighty
Founder of Talenorn and father of Jeremy. He died T78, but was not known dead until T92 as his death was covered up by his loyal friend Lowendirk, Captain of the Guard.

Archibald the Ruthless
Past despot ruler of Talenorn. He is a direct descendant of Jeremy, but is said to have few of the qualities that Jeremy or Archibald the Mighty exhibited. He converted Talenorn into a more militant establishment.

Ashen Woods
The large band of forests that extend North from Nor and Vittria provide many economic opportunities for these city-states. Wood is harvested in great amounts to supply the fleets and rare herbs and fungi are searched for by the Nor Druids.

Auric
Half-elf who earned a position on the Elvish Council until his death in T188. Father of Mira.

AuricDale
This village was founded on the old site of ElfDale and named after the council member Auric. Still called ElfDale by most people.

Bandit Forest
This forest borders the Merchant Kingdoms on the North. Many brigands and mercenary bands make their home here awaiting victims or employment in the Merchant Kingdoms. It is rumored that Inns exist in the deep wood where almost any information can be had - for a price. As of T600, the forest is the new home of the Brigand Elves, a name given to the various tribes of elves who have flocked to the Master's side to forge a new nation of elves in the forest.

Baric
A tavern owner in the old city of Talenorn. Notable for being the only known halfling in the region (beside his wife). He originally came from the Ilurrian Empire. He died in T140 and all halflings in Talenorn are his descendants.

Bog of the Living Fog
A poorly drained lake has over the years become a particularly nasty bog. Few enter that come out alive. Many bodies lie within the waters, finding their graves under the bog's crust. An old step pyramid rumored to house tombs of old Kushite kings lies within the bog.

Burrows of Midnight
A race of nocturnal creatures live in this protected village. The Illyrian Empire watches oveer roads to this hamlet and prevent all but authorized travellers entry.

Not much is known of this Chasm as the Dwarves maintain vigilant guard around it.

Church of the Kraken
Near the center of the Inland Sea lies a mysterious church that gives worship to the monsters of the sea. All sailors sailing across the sea stop here to give their tithes if they do not wish to fall prey to these creatures.

Dar
After the non-humans, notably the Elves, almost wiped out the first human colonists to this continent, a small group of survivors fled to the Northern Desert to carve out an existence there. They started a caravan route and dealt in slaves for the Eastern Kingdoms. Their life in the desert led them to develop a rigid lifestyle. They increased in numbers over the years, and under the leadership of their greatest Warrior-Priest, Dar, they descended upon the Elves and cleared them from the Dark Forest and almost drove them from the Spider Forest. Dar also imprisoned the Great Wyrm Virillion and his his great magics to found the seven mighty wizardry schools of Dar. Only four survived into the year T1, and only one formally survives to this day.

Darian Empire
The Darians controlled the entire Northern Desert and its fringes, extending South to Talenorn around T95. The Great Wyrm Virillion initiated the fall of the Empire. When the Wyrm attacked, many groups saw that as an opportunity to rebel against their oppressors. Talenorn and Northton won their freedom as well as the citizens of Western Dar. The Darian Empire still exists to the far East near the Eastern Kingdoms and some remnants of their forces survive under the guardianship of the Dwarves of the Northern Mountains.

Darian Refugees
The Dwarves were the only non-humans to have helped the original human colonists that later came to be known as the Darians. In return for this assistance, the Darians have to this day never taken a Dwarf slave. They respect Dwarves for their Lawful lifestyle. Although the dwarves could not agree with the evil ways of some Darians, they did allow any Darian that renounced evil to settle along the Northern Mountains under the protection of the Dwarves of the Iron Citadel. Their count has grown as of late, and the Free City of Dar is growing.

Dark Forest
The old Forest of the Green Elves was rid of Elves around BT990. Without the partnership of the elves, the forest has grown dark and evil. Rumors persist of Darians fleeing here when the Empire fell.

Diamond Eyes
Former owner of the Emerald Fortune Inn in Emerald Spring, who turned management of the Inn over to his son Ilic of the Agate upon his death in T437.

Diamond Point
An old settlement of the Ilurrian Empire that fell to ruins when the Lich Tizan took over control of the nearby lowlands.

Dire Swamp
A swamp southwest of Freetown that is a breeding ground for all sorts of humanoids and monsters that raid the currounding settlements and inhabit the hills to the north. Freetown has hired many mercenary bands to clear out the swamp to no avail.

Dragon Hill
A village almost destroyed by the Gnolls of Yeenoghu's Might in T94, the village has since recovered and prospers under the unusally shaped hill. Some people believe the hill to be a dragon turned stone, to awaken someday.

Dragon Teeth
The mountains southeast of Talenorn stick out like a tooth into the Inland Sea. The way they rise up from the very beach has caused the mariners to dub them the Dragon Teeth. They are actually rather revered by many a captain as they are used for navigation across the sea. The mountains are steep and are home to many large flying predators like eagles and hyppogrifs.

Dragons of the Inland Sea
Many dragons congregate along the shores of the Inland Sea because of the good hunting there. Ships commonly steer clear of the Cliffs of the Blinding Sun on the Western edge of the Western Mountains. With the return of the Orcish tribes, the dragons are increasing in number as they feast upon this new vermin.

Duchy of the Gnomes
After the restoration of Talenorn in T96, Jeremy rewarded his Gnomish allies with recognition in the eyes of neighboring kingdoms. The Gnomes enjoy an alliance with Talenorn, and with the establishment of a new elven power in the Bandit Forest, the Gnomes are prospering.

A popular inn for less wealthy travellers in Emerald Spring. Its name springs from the Dwarven proverb about how far you should bury your axe in an Orc's head.

Eastern Kingdoms
The end of the Darian caravan route lies at the mysterious Eastern Kingdoms. Many odd commodities originate from here. These kingdoms are also home to the most notorious assassins on the continent, the Silver Slayers. The slayers often find hire in the power struggles of the Merchant Kingdoms.

Elantor the Magnificent
A curse left this great rogue to be the guardian for the Temple of the Four Elements for all time. He is immortal, and bored of his existence.

ElfDale
ElfDale was a human/elf city at the Southern edge of the Spider Forest 300 years ago. The Elves razed the city in T92. In T188, upon Auric's death, another village was established at the site to honor the fallen leader. The new village's name is AuricDale, but most people still use its original name in honor of the villagers slain there.

Emerald Fortune Inn
Located in Emerald Spring and owned by Diamond Eyes son, Ilic of the Agate, this elite tavern is frequented by the ruling council of Emerald Spring.

Emerald Spring
Main city in the Duchy of the Gnomes. The Emerald River flows out of a cavern lined with Emeralds, hence the name. This location has become a major temple for the Gnomes of the Duchy and will be defended with all of their lives. Gnome pilgrims from around the world come here on pilgrimage.

One of the four Darian schools to survive until T96, this school specializes in the Druidic arts, notably the dark side of nature. They often experiment on fungi creatures, vermin, and poisons.

Faerie Forest
As its name implies, this forest is dominated by a variety of faerie creatures, some kind, some deadly. The forest lies to the West of Nicidus.

Farazad
A forgotten elf that helped bring about Virillion's return. He wandered for years, then established camp in the Bandit Forest in an effort to rid that forest of evil and reestablish an elven presence there. He was successful with the help of many a brave adventurer. Also called the Master.

Fens of Farsulus
These light fens are the source for the drug Jinri, a narcotic traded to the Eastern Kingdoms for great wealth.

Forest Myrmidons
Guardians of the forest created by dark magic by the Spider Forest Elves to defend themselves against the Darian Empire. To create a Forest Myrmidon, an elf warrior must give up his life and merge with an ancient tree. The result is a creature which will kill anything not of the forest.

Forested Hills of Eilor
A large band of forested hills in Ilurria that harbors a variety of creatures both good and evil. The famous composite bows of the Illyrian Homeguard are crafted from ancient trees from this forest.

Forgotten Elves
When the Darian Empire slaughtered the elves, one group of especially mystical elves found a way to hide from the Darians. They shifted their entire village to another realm. The only forgotten elf to be heard of again is Farazad.

Fortress of Gilesh
The mountains to the West of Nicidus harbor vast quantities of humanoids who often raid into the friendly farmlands. Thus, Duke Hr'vas of Nicidus built this fortress in M551. It is constantly staffed by militia and sergeants from the elite guard.

Fortress of toDar
The Dwarved originally built this fortress for the Darians to defend their home from the Southern races bent on destroying the Darians no matter the cost. Being of Dwarven construction, it has never fallen to enemy forces. The Darian Empire finally did fall, but to internal strife and the Great Wyrm Virillion.

Free City of Dar
After the Darian uprising, the freed people fathered in the destroyed city of Dar and rebuilt it as a free city with the help of Talenorn. It is now a city of peace and learning, surviving on the mining of minerals and trade with Talenorn. It's size has grown to rival Talenorn's in the past two centuries.

FreeTown
The nearest Merchant Kingdom to Talenorn, Freetown is a haven for merchants and rogues. With the establishment of the elves in the Bandit Forest, the city has become more peaceful, especially with the militant guardianship of the Hextor Temple and legal preceedings of the Temple to St. Cuthbert.

Fungus Woods
A small forest in the Kushite Empire heavily forested by the miners of Monogh. A strange fungus grows on the trees, and odd creatures have attacked lumberjacks in the darker parts of the forest.

Graybeard
Owner of the Dwarven Deep tavern in Emerald Spring. He is loyal to his friends and deadly to his enemies. He is rising in years and is looking for a new owner for his tavern.

Greenwind
An elvish ranger famous in the Eastern Hills. He has not been seen for years, and was said to have sunk in to the Ancient Mud Flats of Doza-Dar.

Grek
Goblin King that took the Tirn Outpost from Talenorn defenders in T85. He was killed by heroes in T92 at the outpost.

Gruk's Folly
The orcish king Gruk united the tribes of the Western Mountains in BT1800 in order to wipe out the first human settlers to this region. The Spider Forest Elves helped bring this about as a plan to rid themselves of two thorns, the orcs and the humans. The elves used magic to convince the orcs to unite and drive out the humans then used magic again to convince the orcs to attack the elves (!) During the attack, the elves used magic to set the orcish tribes upon one another and the elves cleaned up what was left. Thus the Darians were created from the humans that fled North to escape the orcs, and Gruk was buried in a large cairn in the Western Mountains. His burial chambers extend for miles beneath the surface and connect with many dragon caves. Untold riches and great magic items await foolhardy adventurers. The site has become known as Gruk's Folly in reference to the orcish king's attept to attack the elves in their own forest.

Harbor Mountains
The mountains that guard the harbor of Illyria are old and crumbled, but they have helped fend off many an invasion by the Kushites. There are many secret outposts hidden in the spires, and cahces of weapons, armor, and magic have long been lost to time.

Hell's Furnace
The largest active volcano in the region, Hell's Furnace tower above the Western Mountains. Many caves, both natural and unnatural, run through the massive volcano. Many fire cults have used the site as a place of worship, and legend has it that the entrance to the Temple of the Four Elements appears inside the volcano on the Solstice of each year.

A member of the Elvish Council that has been in seclusion since the Invasion of Talenorn in T93. He is in charge of spiritual matters and administers justice.

Ilurrian Empire
Across the Inland Sea is the Ilurrian Empire, also known as the Illyrrian Empire. The human settlers of Talenorn originally came from this empire. It prospers from trade with Talenorn, but is threatened by the Empire of Kush to the east.

Ironfist
A dwarven merchant in Talenorn, Ironfist is an honorable and aged Dwarf. He still runs the docks and controls much of the shipments to and from Talenorn. He is cousin to Graybeard.

The Iron Citadel
The dwarven home citadel in the Northern Mountains. It is made of stone rumored to be lined with iron and other harder and even magical metals. No one has ever successfully sieged the citadel in its existance of millenia. One of the few places you can find Mithril or Adamantite.

A member of the Elvish Council that has been in seclusion since the Invasion of Talenorn in T93. She maintains the records for the Elves.

Jeremy
Young bastard child of Archibald the Mighty and Madame Cyrus. The boy grew up with the guild of the city, learning valuable skills to keep alive. He later gained the throne, helped defend against the elvish attack of T93, was kidnapped by Lyren, and turned into a vampire by Tere'. Following his rescue, Jeremy returned to normal and reclaimed Talenorn with Virillion's and the Gnome's help.

Another major empire across the Inland Sea, the Kushites are a barbaric people and threaten the Ilurrian Empire constantly. Their main cities include Monogh, Rhavos, and Zindimar.

A quiet lake North of the Misty Moor, the lake provides water and food for the neighboring villages and the town of Rhydia.

An adventurer that accompanied Archibald the Mighty and died in exploring Hell's Furnace. She was a halfling, a rare sight on this continent.

Lidicus
Lidicus was a great mage that studied in Talenorn. One day he summoned a demon too powerful for him to contain and the demon destroyed him in his laboratory. His remains can still be seen during the nightly performance at Lidicus' Demise, a popular tavern in Talenorn. Triskelion himself was said to have even shown occasionally to tell the story to eager onlookers.

Lidicus' Demise
A decent tavern in Talenorn that owes its popularity and very survival to the death of the famous mage Lidicus. Even during the Darian takeover of T95, this tavern was not destroyed out of superstition and the rumor of the demon guarding the mage's remains.

A magnificent lighthouse built by magic and Ironfist's engineers, this lighthouse shows mariners the way into Talenorn's harbour.

The Lich Tizan fled here after being driven from the underearth of Illyria. He still sends bands of undead and other minions to raid the farmlands to the West.

A Darian that infiltrated Talenorn, kidnapped Jeremy, and took power in Darian controlled Talenorn of T94. His body was never found and presumed burned to ashes by the Wyrm Virillion.

Former lady of the house at the brothel/temple of love in Talenorn, she had a secret love affair with Archibald the Mighty and gave birth to Jeremy.

Another name for Farazad. He acquired this name when he settled down in the Bandit Forest and began clearing it of evil.

Merchant Kingdoms
A loose federation of kingdoms to the Southeast. They prosper in trading across the Inland Sea with their great fleets. The lead city is named Ruhmiya.

A member of the Elvish Council that has been in seclusion since the Invasion of Talenorn in T93. She is the daughter of Auric.

Mirror Lake
This Northern lake near Northton freezes over at odd times during the year. It is unknown why this happens, but parents always hide their children during these occurrences as the Servants of the Ice come forth to claim their children. Hundreds of children have been kidnapped, never to return, over the past centuries.

Misty Moor
A marshland commonly used by bandit groups to raid nearby villages. It is an area of flat grasslands and wide streams which produces a fog most days of the year.

Monastery of the Windy Spire
Founded by Migoran in T10, the monastery lies in the foothills of the Western Mountains and trains monks and priests in the ways of Nature and Air. A rare Yew tree grows alone atop the spire as a center of worship for the group. avily defended and can be accessed only with difficulty from the valley floor.

Monogh
The City of Steel lies at the base of mountains with mines of iron, silver, and gold. Monogh is what makes Kush a wealthy Empire. Slaves are driven to work the mines, mainly half-orcs and goblins.

Morgul
One of the city-states of the Merchant Kingdoms. The rowdy city of Morgul has a large Kushite population and allows open street fighting and tavern brawls. Many swarthy pirates call Morgul home. Ruhmiya and Alcibiad strongly object in merchant council to these activities, but they have yet to change Morgul's ways.

Mud Flats of Doza-Dar
The name for a large area of barren landscape East of the Duchy of the Gnomes.

Narek-enDar
A village South of Dar where the uprisings first started. The villagers had been persecuted by the enDar cult for years, and when the dragon came, they decided it was time to free themselves from such tyranny. They took word across the desert to other villages which joined them in sacking Dar and later settling the new Free City of Dar. It is now a holy site for pilgrims who worship the new gods.

neDar School
Not as much a school as a way to constrin Sorcerors into servitude for other schools of knowledge. The Darians viewed sorcerors with disdain, and forced these free magicians into servitude for the jusDar, enDar, and zuDar schools of magic. Many neDar members were used in experiments and died early deaths. The neDar welcomed the uprisings.

Neenatees
This island city relies upon its navy for defense and has no city walls, a rarity for the realm. The low reefs surrounding the island prevent most ships from approaching. Smaller vessels sail to meet ships anchored off of the reefs. The city sends praise to Pelor and is ruled by the great human sage Mindox.

A city on the Northern Ocean that trades with the Eastern Kingdoms.

Nikli Gomshu
A former resident of Talenorn, this Gnome left many years ago to retire as a master gemcutter in Emerald Spring. He died in T411.

Nor
A rival to Ruhmiya, this trading city does business with the Merchant Kingdoms and the city-states to the North. The queen of Nor rules for life, and never marries, instead picking a lineage of girls from the city population to succeed her. She is often referred to as the Virgin or Nor.

Noric the Mad
The town magician iThe town magician in Talenorn, he gained access to the Gem of Power and used it in a misguided attempt to gain power. He fell victim to the power of the stone and was taken to the lower Hells. Maybe he will return someday?

Northern Elves
One group of elves found a way to escape the Darians by merging their bodies into the firest trees with their magic. They became xenophobic over the years and reside dep in the Northwest forest.

A village at the edge of Mirror Lake. It is an important trading center along the trade route to the Eastern Kingdoms.

An ancient Darian city, lost to the desert, she still has inhabitants, but they are no longer human.

This pass defends the Merchant Kingdoms from invasion from the West. Once a group of Xvarts decided to try and raid Freetown and were wipedout in this pass by mercenaries of Ruhmiya.

Pyramid of ForenDar

An unusual Jann that aided in the destruction of the seed of darkness from the Temple of the Dark Wood. He sems strangely interested in humans and their kind and often visits the prime material plane.

Rifnalik
A previous member of the elven council until his banishment in T93. Rumors exist as to his being controlled by Darians through evil magic in an attempt to bring the elves to their destruction when they attacked Talenorn. Spider Forest
Home to the (duh) Spider Forest Elves, the Darians almost rid the entire forest of elves around BT1000. Many strange creatures lair here such as Forest Myrmidons, Vile Spiders, and other dark creatures. Cleansed in T93, the forest has fallen into darkness slowly again over the past 500 years. The elves seem to be actually encouraging this as a way to remain shielded from the humans outside.

Spider Forest Elves
Inhabitants of the Spider Forest. Their rulling council represents the last politically active group of Elves on the continent, at least until the Brigand Elves were formed. The council members are currently Isevry, Alstnor, Hestron, and Mira.

Talenorn
Talenorn is a free citystate along the trade route from the Eastern Kingdoms, across the Inland Sea, to the Ilurrian Empire. The city was destroyed by the Darian Empire over 300 years ago and has since rebuilt to surpass its former glory. Taxes are heavy and the citystate maintains a strong garrison against the dual threats of Ilurrian takeover and Orcish invasion. It is also the location of the Well of Vagros, a mysterious oracle.

Teeth of Mormos
The strait has viscious waters and currents which shatter many a vessel upon the rocks nearby. Only special scouts trained to navigate the straits can make it through alive.

Temple of St. Cuthbert
Main religion of the city of Talenorn, this temple lies at the base of the walls of the inner keep. It was rebuilt in T97 after Talenorn's recapture from the Darians.

Temple of the Dark Wood
When the Spider Forest Elves sacrificed the forest's soul to defeat the Darians, this temple arose in the darkest edge of the forest. The artifact used by the Elves to defeat their enemies was hidden here, the seed of all their evil. It was ultimately destroyed in the Nexus of the Elements on the elemental planes.

Temple of the Four Elements
This temple temporarily opens gates in the prime material plane, allowing entry to the elemental planes. The temple is ruled by 2 lords, one of good and one of evil. The elemental lords war over the temple itself, doomed to never completely control the temple. As the temple moves between the elements, the good and evil forces of that element war over the temple floors, always maintaining balance.

Timekeeping
The calendar is kept in terms of years since Talenorn's founding (T) and years before Talenorn's founding (BT). The scribes of Talenorn are the only people to follow this method. The merchants use the number of years since Ruhmiya was founded (M) and the Darians use the number of years since Dar ascended (D). It is currently T600, M712, and D1158.

Tirn Outpost
Founded by Talenorn forces circa T5, the Tirn Outpost was used to defend against Orc and Goblin raiders. In T85, goblins led by Grek captured the fortress and occupied it until T92. It now lies in ruins.

Current home of the last remaining school of Darian Wizardry, the zuDar School. These abjurers still practice their art under the watchful eye of the Talenorn garrisons in the Fortres of toDar.

A wandering minstrel, Triskelion was a legendary storyteller and identifier of strange artifacts. He adventured with Archibald the Mighty and helped him build and settle the area now known as Talenorn.

Valley of Shadow
The old master of Noric the Mad lived in a lonely tower in this valley. He was said to have constructed the Gem of Power which Noric later used to summon devils to aid the Darian takeover of Talenorn. The Gem is now missing in one of the Lower Planes. The area around the Tower is infested with Xvarts, evil creations of the old mage.

Virillion's Castle
In T96, the Great Wyrm Virillion, imprisoned by Dar around BT1000, was freed by a band of heroes. The dragon proceeded to destroy as much of the Darian Empire as he could, partially for vengeance and partially to reward his benefactors for his freedom. He has now returned to his heavily defended citadel in the Spire Mountains to the North.

Vittria
One terminus on the caravan route from Nicidus, this peaceful city maintains a strong citizen army for defense. It is the ruled by the High Priest of Pelor and caters to a strong local faerie presence. Magic does not work quite the same way near the town.

Western Mountains
Circa T130, the Western Mountains were increasing inhabited by Orcish bands from the Northwest. Giants, old residents of the area, also increased their numbers. The Mountains is a constant source of irritation for Talenorn and its garrison. Notable features are Hell's Furnace, Gruk's Folly, and the Dragons of the Inland Sea.

Yeenoghu's Might
A Gnoll mercenary band that prospers in the Eastern Hills, mainly by the coffers of the merchant family's as they struggle for power in the Merchant Kingdoms. Their symbol is a black shield with a bloody morningstar. They usually wear blackened leather cuirasses with chainmail patches.

The capital of the Kushite Empire, this great city lies far to the South and has walls of tall stone and soldiers outfitted with steel from Monogh.

zuDar School
One of the four remaining schools of Darian spellcasting. This school remains in existence in the Tower of the zuDar in the midst of the Northern Desert. They specialize in Abjuration, thus zuDar wizards are often called Abjurers. Their defensive orientation allowed them to survive the Darian slaughter of T96. They maintain no allegiance politically and currently train many spellcasters from neighboring areas, including Talenorn.
